Newport will receive millions in additional funds from gambling revenue if voters approve a ballot question allowing table games at Newport Grand. A bill approved by the General Assembly would give the city an increase in slot machine revenue from 1.01 percent to 1.45 percent. It would also give the city around $1.5 million per year in the first six years after developers make their $40 million dollar investment. After the six years, the city would get $1 million dollars per year or 1.45% of slot revenue, whichever is greater. The question to approve the table games will be on the November ballot for local voters in Newport.
