Lawmakers have been called back to the Statehouse by Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed. The Monday session was called to have senators reconsider legislation that outlined terms of the agreement that would expand table games at Newport Grand with voter approval. The legislation was passed with a 24-2 vote late in the evening as the General Assembly was hurrying to adjourn, 12 senators did note vote. Appropriation measures need a two-thirds majority vote all al those elected, not just present for the voting. The measure needs 26 yes votes. WJAR reports that Paiva Weed said legal advisers don’t believe such a majority is needed in this case but a re-vote will be held nonetheless.
