Two powerful Democrats are claiming they have the votes to be the next House Speaker. Majority Leader Nicholas Mattiello and House Oversight Chairman Michael Marcello are vying for the top spot. Mattiello emerged from a closed-door meeting with representatives last night saying he's confident about tomorrow's election. The scramble for the job follows the weekend announcement that current Speaker Gordon Fox is resigning. Fox is stepping down from the Speaker position in the aftermath of a raid Friday on his State House office and Providence home by state and federal investigators.
