The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Friends of the Poor Walk is a one-mile, fundraising event intended to raise awareness of (and funds for) people from our community in crisis. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the fundraising event will be spent providing emergency utility payments, food, clothing and shelter, along with one-on-one assistance to people in RI so that they may create their own pathways to independence and success. In 2013, 35 conferences in Rhode Island provided 136,000 volunteer hours and more than $890,000 in direct aid to more than 120,000 people in need. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization comprised of 700,000 volunteers in 140 countries. Applications can be found at svdpri.org. The day’s events kick off with registration at 9 and the walk will begin at 10, followed by a free family fun festival featuring complimentary entertainment, food and activities.
