Rhode Island municipalities will be charged $250 for every load of contaminated materials that are included in recyclables instead of trash. Those charges go into effect today. The Daily News reports that Materials Recycling Facility in Johnston has said that communities that use 55 gallon recycling carts that are contaminated are on the rise. 15 of 39 towns will be using the large cart system. Middletown has been using large carts for recyclables for years and Newport will be using the cart system starting November 3rd.
