Colonel Steven G. O’Donnell, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Commissioner of Public Safety, announced that on September 17, 2014 at approximately 1:40 p.m., members of the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force, Rhode Island State Police Detectives assigned to the Adult Correctional Institute, members of the Providence Police and Special Investigators from the Department of Corrections apprehended Keurys Pena, age 25 on Daboll Street near Updike Street in the City of Providence. Pena walked away from his work assignment at the Prison Industries Building earlier in the week. Pena is currently serving a ten year sentence for breaking and entering and could earn more jail time on charges of escape from a correctional institution. Pena could receive three more years if convicted.
