Runway repairs and safety improvements at Quonset State Airport in North Kingstown are scheduled to be completed by the end of November. The 3-point-8 million dollar project includes repairing the runway,restoring pavement,replacing a culvert and improving safety areas.
The work is supported by 1-point-7 million dollars from Washington. Quonset State Airport is the second largest public use airport in the state,after T.G. Green Airport in Warwick. The general aviation facility handles military aircraft and small private planes. It is also home to the Quonset Point Air National Guard Station and 143rd Airlift Wing of the Rhode Island Air National Guard.
