Some Newport businesses that cater to the boating industry are claiming that a revised waterfront ordinance passed by the council earlier this year is hurting their business. The ordinance put a 14 day limit on the harbor’s open anchorage areas. After 14 days, they have to leave for at least 4 days before they can return. The Daily News reports that the revised ordinance has caused a problem for boat owners looking for new sails and refits that take more than two weeks. It also impacts people who live on their boats and work in water related businesses.
