A Providence man is accused of raping and beating a woman.  Richard Lopes was formally charged yesterday with sexual assault and threatening a police officer.  Lopes allegedly attacked the woman in April.  Officers found her semi-conscious in a driveway.  Investigators followed a trail of blood to a basement where they found Lopes passed out with blood on his clothes.  The suspect also allegedly threatened to kill one of the officers.  He is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
