Gas prices up 1 cent per gallon in Rhode Island

The price of gas in Rhode Island has increased, but remains lower than the national average.

AAA Northeast finds in its weekly survey released Tuesday that the price of a gallon of regular unleaded increased one cent from last week to an average of $2.21.

That price is still 9 cents lower than a month ago and 10 cents less than the national average of $2.31 per gallon.

Gas in Rhode Island costs much less than it did a year ago at this time, when it cost $1.07 more per gallon. At that time, a gallon of regular was averaging $3.28.

AAA found that self-serve, regular gas is now selling for as low as $2.07 per gallon and as high as $2.38.

Gas prices had been falling each week since July.
