Providence Group Wants High-Ranking Black Police Officer

A group in Providence is calling for Mayor Jorge O. Elorza to appoint a Black police officer to the department's command staff.  Pegged as the "Black Major Movement," dozens of people showed up to City Hall yesterday to ask for a black officer to be ranked above a sergeant.  In a recent statement, Mayor Elorza said he believes the department's leadership should reflect its diverse community and that he is committed to supporting all officers of color.
