(Undated)  --  Here is the latest news:  A winter storm is hitting Southern New England today.  The Providence City Council holds an emergency meeting to address the mass firing of police for not getting vaccinated against COVID.  The Patriots get bounced by Buffalo in the first round of the playoffs.

>>Winter Storm Impacting RI Monday 

(Providence, RI)  --  A steady snow fell in the Providence area overnight Monday before there was a changeover to rain.  The National Weather Service says the winter storm impacting Southern New England today could cause damaging winds on the Rhode Island south coast.  Forecasters say wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour are possible.

>>Two Dead In Separate Fire, Shooting In Providence

(Providence, RI)  --  One person is dead after a weekend house fire in Providence and another died in a shooting, the first homicide in the capital city in 2022.  Firefighters arrived at the Hillcrest Village Apartments on Leander Street overnight Sunday and found a resident unresponsive.  The male victim reportedly died from smoke inhalation.  Also overnight Sunday, a fatal shooting took place in the area of Elmwood and Potters Avenue.  No names have been released.

>>No Mass Firing Of Providence Police For Missing Vax Deadline

(Providence, RI)  --  There was no mass firing of Providence police because of a missed coronavirus vaccination deadline on Friday as some on the City Council had feared.  Council president John Igliozzi called an emergency meeting to consider an ordinance that would regulate such a mass firing, but it was referred to a committee.  Igliozzi said the council was pleased that the city administration has taken a reasonable approach to what could have been a disastrous public safety situation.

>>Officer-Involved Shooting At Warwick Police Department

(Warwick, RI)  --  Law enforcement officers shot a man inside the Warwick Police Department headquarters on Friday.  Reports indicate the man stabbed an officer in the lobby of the building, but that the officer's bullet-proof vest kept them safe.  The suspect was reported in stable condition at Rhode Island Hospital.  Four officers, including the one who was stabbed, have been placed on leave while the shooting is investigated.

>>Amtrak Conductor Dies After Falling Off Train 

(Westerly, RI)  --  An Amtrak conductor died Saturday after reportedly falling off a train in Rhode Island.  Police say the 26-year-old woman from Massachusetts fell off the train before it pulled into the Westerly station.  Amtrak is investigating the incident.

>>Patriots Season Over After Playoff Loss To Buffalo 

(Undated)  --  The New England Patriots' season is over after a 47-to-17 loss versus the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday.  Mac Jones, a rookie of the year nominee, had two touchdown passes and two interceptions for the Pats.  New England Nation now turns its attention to Tom Brady's quest for a repeat championship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Brady led the Bucs to a 31-to-15 win over Philadelphia in their playoff opener on Sunday.
