(Undated)  --  Here is the latest news: Several new gun control bills have become law in Rhode Island.  A former cheerleading coach in the state who is facing charges has been suspended from her job.  Ex-Patriot Rob Gronkowski is hanging up the football cleats one more time.

>>Rhode Island Governor Signs New Gun Bills Into Law

(Providence, RI)  --  Rhode Island has several new gun control laws on the books after the governor's signature was applied on Tuesday.  The most controversial of the trio of laws is a ban on semi-automatic firearm magazines containing over ten rounds of ammunition.  Violating the law is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison or a five-thousand-dollar fine.  The other two bills prohibit the open-carrying of loaded rifles or shotguns in public, and raise the minimum age to buy all firearms to 21.  Governor Dan McKee says meaningful action has been taken to address the scourge of gun violence happening in this country, and to keep Rhode Islanders safe.

>>RI Legislature Advances Illegal Immigrant Driving Privileges Proposal

(Providence, RI)  --  The Rhode Island General Assembly is moving along legislation that would give illegal immigrants de facto driver's licenses.  The House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday voted 9-to-2 in favor of a measure that would grant driving privilege permits for the illegal immigrants.  According to a Providence Journal report, residents need to have filed a Rhode Island tax return or be a dependent of someone who has filed one, plus provide two documents showing they live in the state.  A vote from the full RI House of Representatives is scheduled for Wednesday.

(Providence, RI)  --  Another candidate for Rhode Island lieutenant governor in the 2022 primary election is stepping forward.  According to The Providence Journal, Republican Aaron Guckian was set to make an official announcement in Warwick on Tuesday.  Guckian worked for the Rhode Island Foundation and was a special assistant to former RI governor Donald Carcieri.  Another GOP candidate for the position, Jeann Lugo, has indicated they are instead pursuing a state Senate seat.  The other Republican in the lieutenant governor race is Paul Pence.  The crowded Democratic side includes incumbent Sabina Matos.

>>Woman Who Was Arrested For Molestation Is Suspended From Job

(East Providence, RI)  --  New details are emerging about a criminal case involving a former Rhode Island cheerleading coach.  Thirty-three-year-old Alyshia Tkacs [[ uh-LEE-shuh tax ]] of Cranston was arraigned in court on Tuesday on over a half-dozen child molestation charges.  The accuser, now an adult, claims the abuse took place when they were between 12 and 14.  Care New England says Tkacs has been suspended without pay from her job as a nurse at Women and Infants Hospital.  She reportedly coached at the now-closed Superior Cheer All Stars center in Providence.  Tkacs is being held without bail pending another court hearing on June 23rd.  The East Providence Police Department says there could potentially be other victims, and is asking anyone with relevant information to reach out.

>>Coronavirus Death Toll In Rhode Island: 3,601

(Providence, RI)  --  Rhode Island reported two new coronavirus deaths on Tuesday.  The pandemic death toll in the Ocean State increased to three-thousand-601.  The COVID patient count in RI hospitals remains below one-hundred.  The state has now tallied over four-hundred-thousand total coronavirus cases since March of 2020.

>>Gronk Retiring Again

(Undated)  --  Former New England Patriots receiver Rob Gronkowski is announcing his retirement from the NFL for the second time.  Gronk first came out of retirement to join Tom Brady on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  The pair won four Super Bowls together with the Pats and Bucs.
