(Undated)  --  Here is the latest news: The Rhode Island General Assembly has passed a bill granting driving privileges to illegal immigrants.  The RI Supreme Court says a police officer at T.F. Green Airport who was fired is owed a hearing.  The old New England Patriots jerseys will be worn during the 2022 season.

>>Illegal Immigrant Driving Bill Passed By RI General Assembly

(Providence, RI)  --  The Rhode Island Legislature is sending a bill to the governor's desk that would grant driving privileges, but not licenses, to illegal immigrants.  Senator Frank Ciccone [[ chick-CONE ]], one of the bill's sponsors, says making certain that all drivers are trained, tested and insured, regardless of immigration status, is a safety issue as well as an economic one.  Representative Karen Alzate [[ al-ZAH-tay ]], the chair of the Black and Latino Caucus, says the community of color has long advocated for the passage of the legislation.

>>State Supreme Court Says Fired Airport Police Official Owed Hearing

(Warwick, RI)  --  The Rhode Island Supreme Court is weighing in on a personnel controversy at T.F. Green International Airport.  The Providence Journal reports the court has ruled that the state Airport Corporation violated law by firing airport police deputy chief Helen Ricci without giving her a hearing in 2020.  The court ordered back pay for Ricci, but did not rule that she must be reinstated.  The Airport Corporation says a hearing under the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights will be held at a date yet-to-be-determined.

>>Providence Man Sentenced For Trafficking Drugs

(Providence, RI)  --  A fifteen-year federal prison sentence is being handed down in Providence.  The Justice Department says 47-year-old Juni Rafael Jimenez-Martinez pleaded guilty to drug distribution and illegal re-entry into the United States.  Prosecutors say the Providence resident is a Dominican national who was deported twice.  According to the DOJ, Jimenez-Martinez led a local drug-trafficking organization which brought in large amounts of cocaine and fentanyl from Mexico.

>>Comfortable Weather Continues Before Weekend Warmup

(Undated)  --  A great stretch of weather continues for Rhode Island this week as we have hit the summer solstice.  The National Weather Service forecast for Thursday and Friday is sunny and 70s.  Dry skies are expected to continue into the weekend, but it will feel a little more like summer, with highs in the Providence area potentially reaching the 90s on Saturday and Sunday.

>>Kip's Restaurant Torn Down

(Pawtucket, RI)  --  An iconic Pawtucket restaurant is now a hole in the ground.  Kip's Corner on Newport Avenue opened in 1959 and closed earlier this year.  The building was recently torn down to make way for a new bank.  The former restaurant proprietors told the Valley Breeze the property owner's decision cost them a comfortable retirement, but that they've gotten great community support.

>>Patriots Bringing Back Throwback Red Jerseys

(Foxboro, MA)  --  The New England Patriots are bringing back the throwback jerseys.  The red "Pat Patriot" uniforms and helmets will be worn at least once this upcoming season.  The team didn't specify what game or games when making the announcement on Wednesday.  The old kits haven't been put on since 2012.
