>>Temperatures Sinking Below Freezing This Week

(Providence, RI)  --  Get ready for a deep plunge into winter temperatures this upcoming weekend.  The National Weather Service forecast for the Providence area is calling for lows in the teens through Thursday night.  Then on Friday evening, temperatures are expected to dip below zero.  Saturday's high temp is only around 15 degrees.  The weather service is keeping an eye on potentially-dangerous wind chills.  Conditions will rebound to above-freezing on Sunday.

>>Woman Shot And Killed In Providence

(Providence, RI)  --  There was a fatal shooting in Providence on Monday, the first homicide in the capital city in 2023.  The shooting happened at around 2 p.m. inside a home on Prudence Avenue in the Silver Lake neighborhood.  The unidentified female victim was reportedly pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.  Providence police said a suspect was in custody, but did not immediately provide additional details.

>>Man's Death Investigated In Woonsocket

(Woonsocket, RI)  --  Police are looking into the circumstances of a death in Woonsocket.  A 70-year-old man was found dead at a home on Cato Street yesterday.  The Woonsocket police chief says this was apparently a domestic incident.

>>Providence School Official Reportedly Solicited Help For Student Smuggled Into Country

(Providence, RI)  --  A Providence school administrator has been placed on leave.  Multiple reports indicate Stefani Harvey, an assistant principal at Mount Pleasant High School, emailed colleagues urging them to support a student who was allegedly brought into the United States illegally.  The email reportedly asked staff members to help meet the smuggling group's demand for five-thousand dollars payment.  The Providence School District is investigating the incident.

>>Lifespan Closing Outpatient Center

(Providence, RI)  --  Today is the scheduled last day for an outpatient hospital run by Lifespan Health System in Providence.  WPRI-TV reported Lifespan officials confirmed last month the shutdown of the Rhode Island Hospital Surgery Center at Wayland Square.  The surgery center opened in 1994 and was originally owned by Medical Care International.  About twenty employees are losing their jobs.  Lifespan has encouraged them to apply for other hospital positions.

>>Mazzulla Coaching NBA All-Star Team

(Boston, MA)  --  Boston Celtics interim coach Joe Mazzulla [[ mah-ZOOL-uh ]] and his staff have been selected to coach in the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.  Mazzulla earned the spot because the Celtics have clinched the best record in the Eastern Conference through games played on Sunday, February 5th.  The Rhode Islander Mazzulla will be coaching the team that's captained by Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo [[ YAHN-iss ah-dedo-KOON-bo ]].  This will be just the third time in the last 24 seasons an all-star team will be guided by a first-year coach.  The game is being played in Salt Lake City on February 19th.
