The attorney general's Medicaid Fraud Unit recovered more than eight-million-dollars for the state's Medicaid budget in 2013.  The unit entered into settlement agreements with pharmaceutical companies for off-label billing and/or overbilling the state, and with physician’s practices for overbilling and coding errors.  In a news release, Attorney General Peter Kilmartin says Medicaid is one of Rhode Island's most expensive programs and cannot be "plagued with fraud, waste and abuse."
