July 13 2022 - Host: Bill Tavares, Communications Director - Our guest will be Rebecca Kelly, a Newport, RI based independent textile and fashion scholar. We will be discussing the evolution of fashion during The Gilded Age along with the growth of department stores and other matters related to fashion in this era and how it is portrayed in the HBO series. Rebecca is author of the essay Fashion in the Gilded Age: A Profile of Newport's King Family in the book Twentieth-Century American Fashion. She is currently a lecturer at both The Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Rhode Island and previously worked as a textile conservator holding positions at The Preservation Society of Newport County and later the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
